About the Welter Brothers

Harmonies Forged Across Continents

The Welter Brothers’ childhood was a journey across continents and cultures. From the bustling cities of Asia to the quiet villages of Europe, their experiences shaped their musical souls, with each new place leaving a lasting impression.

Drawn together by a shared passion, they found solace and connection in the timeless power of storytelling and song. Their music blends diverse influences, capturing the spirit of America’s heartland while honoring the ballads and traditions of the British Isles. It’s a sound that speaks directly to the listener’s heart, reminding us that beneath our differences, there’s a shared human experience.

Together, they create music that transcends time and place, inviting listeners on a journey of discovery. Their songs, both old and new, resonate with the spirit of wanderers and the endless possibilities ahead.

Corban Welter – The Storyteller

Corban, the elder brother, guides the listener on a musical journey with his mandolin and guitar. His voice, clear and true, carries tales of love, loss, and resilience. Whether breathing new life into an age-old ballad or sharing an original composition, Corban’s melodies evoke emotions that linger long after the final notes fade.

Jackson Welter – The Banjo Keeper

Jackson, the younger brother, takes on the mantle of the bards of old, his banjo resonating with the timeless tales he brings to life. A historian and anthropologist at heart, he delves deep into the annals of time, sharing songs and stories that bridge the gap between past and present. His rich and resonant voice blends seamlessly with Corban’s, creating harmonies that evoke both intimacy and a sense of shared experience.

Welter Brothers’ Music
The Welter Brothers are, in many ways, a classic stringed instrument-wielding blood harmony duo. Like the Louvins, Monroes, and Everlys, they have spent countless hours melding their individual sounds into a cohesive unit. However, the wells they draw from stand unique among similar groups.
Jackson, a historian and audio engineer, delves as far back as the thirteenth century in the English/Scottish ballad tradition, infusing this wealth of knowledge into even the most modern arrangements. Corban, an original songwriter, and skilled technician on several instruments, brings a contemporary perspective to even the oldest of songs.

Together, their style stands at the nexus of genres, as if time-traveling anthropologists had distilled the last 200 years of storytelling and dance tunes into music suitable for the modern palette.

Their Repertoire Includes:
A mix of originals, traditional tunes, and carefully selected covers.  The Welter Brothers’ are adept reading the audience and adapting to the crowd in front of them. They have over 3 hours of prepared material, so have plenty of songs to choose from.  Their sets can include:

  • Evocative interpretations of traditional English language ballads, such as “The Three Ravens” and “Blackjack Davey.”
  • Contemporary folk songs that resonate with timeless themes, such as Stan Rogers’ “The Mary Ellen Carter.”
  • Corban’s original compositions, including “Flying Machine,” “Ghost Clipper,” and “Half a Heart,” which explore themes of love, loss, and the human spirit.
  • Jackson’s mastery of the banjo mixed with Corban’s command of either the guitar or mandolin adds color to their arrangements across a range of styles, from 16th-century ballads to contemporary folk and bluegrass.

Performance Highlights

The Welter Brothers perform often and give their best to every performance — large or small.

Quotes & Testimonials

  • “The Welter Brothers aren’t just musicians; they’re time travelers, conjuring the spirit of the past and infusing it with the energy of the present.” – TRW
  • An enormously sentimental song (Mr. Bojangles) for so many, and all sorts of people and I’d like to think that, beyond fondness for their favourite version, what I just listened to would more than please practically all of them, and that certainly includes me. No small thing to take on such a big tune and chuck it out there but your take pays respect musically and emotionally. Hat’s off to you both. Cheers! — P. Mckenzie
  • “Their voices blend in perfect harmony, carrying you away on a tide of emotion.” — A. Jackson
  • “So awesome y’all” — Methow Recycles
  • “Beautiful Song Corban! — R. Fraser
  • “I love this collaboration with your brother … Shady Grove is a personal favorite and I really enjoyed this arrangement!” — H. Weber
