We’re excited to share our latest release: an a cappella rendition of the traditional ballad “Pleasant and Delightful”. We recorded this version in the Windy Point Tunnel, which we came across while hiking the Iron Goat Trail near our home in Washington State.
The Windy Point Tunnel is part of the old Great Northern Railway grade built in 1893. It’s located in the Cascade Mountains and is now part of a popular hiking trail. The tunnel’s natural acoustics gave our voices an interesting resonance that we think adds character to the recording.
“Pleasant and Delightful” is a folk song about a sailor saying goodbye to his love before a long voyage. We learned this song from an old British expat who was a regular member of the Bahrain Acoustic Music Group when we lived there from 2011 to 2013. We chose to perform it with just our voices to focus on the emotional core of the story.
This project let us combine our love for traditional music with the rich history of our local area. We hope you enjoy listening to it as much as we enjoyed making it.
